Canoe Coat
$319.00
The Canoe Coat is the best outdoor storage protection you can get for your canoe. Made from durable, UV- and water-resistant Sunbrella fabric, the best marine-grade fabric available, the Canoe Coat is custom sewn to cover your canoe’s hull and secures with quick-release hooks and bungies. Installation and removal are quick and easy, taking about 60 seconds for one person.Sunbrella fabric carries a 10-year warranty against fading and UV damage and is the leading fabric in the marine industry. It blocks 100% of UV light, is very water resistant, and is breathable to allow moisture and heat to escape.
It’s the best protection you can get for your canoe and is the same fabric we use for our Ultimate Covers for kayaks, surf skis, and outrigger canoes. If you store your boat outdoors, especially if it has wood gunwales or is a beloved wood and canvas boat, or you want the best protection and long-term value in a canoe cover, the Canoe Coat is what we recommend.
Canoes that are stored outdoors get most of their UV exposure and damage when in storage. These covers are definitely the most effective and long-lasting way to protect them. Note that the Canoe Coat is NOT a travel cover. If you would like a canoe cover that’s safe for transport up to highway speeds, please see our Original Bag Lady Canoe Covers.
Should I get the optional padding?
A padded Canoe Coat offers an extra level of protection against bumps and scrapes when your canoe is on the storage rack, especially if your canoe is stored in a club or other public location with other boats. Note that the padding can collect dirt, grit, and moisture, so it does require some extra care.
We don’t recommend the padding if your boat is stored outdoors for the winter in a place with prolonged temperatures below freezing and you use your boat during the colder seasons - the padding can freeze to the boat hull and tear if you try to remove it when it's still frozen.
My canoe isn't listed in the Manufacturer or Model drop down. What do I do?
Don't worry! We make all of our patterns from measurements and don't need your boat in the shop to make a perfect cover.
Just contact us by email at hello@redleafdesigns.com or by phone at +1 (906) 451-4539 and we can send you a measurement packet that walks you through the measurements we need, step-by-step.
Can I get a Canoe Coat for my kayak, surf ski, or outrigger canoe?
We don’t offer Canoe Coats for kayaks, surf skis, or outrigger canoes, but do make the Ultimate Cover for those boats. The Ultimate Cover is a durable long-term outdoor storage and transportation cover made from the same custom-fit, marine-grade Sunbrella fabric and featuring full coverage and a full-length marine #10 zipper.
The Ultimate Cover is the highest level of storage and transport protection you can get for your kayak, surf ski, or outrigger canoe.

Expedition Spray Decks - Solo Canoes
$550.00
If you don't see your solo canoe make and model listed in the ordering options, don't worry! Just contact us at hello@redleafdesigns.com so that we can send you a measurement packet. Once we have your boat's measurements, we'll add it to the list.
---------
Our Expedition Canoe Spray Decks are made to protect you, your canoe, and your gear from sun, waves, and wind on even the most extended expedition. Each spray deck is made to order, ensuring a perfect, custom fit and offering all the options and features you need.
The decks are made from marine-grade, 8.75 oz Aqualon Edge fabric, making them waterproof, durable, UV-resistant, and long lasting. If you're paddling open water or on epic expeditions, they won't let you down, but are also light enough to portage without a second thought. A fully outfitted tandem expedition deck with attachment hardware weighs about 5 pounds.
All expedition spray decks feature three-panel, fitted tunnels that avoid excess, baggy fabric. The anatomically contoured tunnels close with 2" Velcro and have two removable side battens to keep the fabric off of your lap and prevent water from pooling. The tunnels on expedition spray covers are made from waterproof 400D ripstop polyester, ensuring both comfort and durability.
Two attachment options give you flexibility in mounting the cover to your canoe:
A pure snap system is low profile, durable, and simple. The snaps are mounted directly to the edge of the cover and the studs are attached to your boat about 1" below the gunwales. The gunwales provides protection to prevent obstacles, your paddle, or your hands from scraping the snaps while paddling. The cover's tension and position are fixed and permanent once you've mounted the snap studs on your boat. You can choose between riveting snap studs to your boat or using YKK SNAD adhesive studs.
Our hybrid snap-and-lace system, which uses snaps to attach a lacing system to the canoe. In what we think is a best-of-both-worlds approach, this system gives you the quick and easy on-off of a snap system along with the flexibility in tensioning and loading of a lacing system. Because the snaps are about 5 to 6 inches below your gunwales, they are more exposed and less protected than a pure snap system mounted just under the gunwales. You can choose between riveting stainless snap studs to your boat hull or using YKK SNAD snap studs that attach with 3M VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive.
All options are "standard":
1000D Cordura-reinforced gunwales
Anatomic, fitted spray tunnels with 2-inch Velcro closures, knee battens, and roll-away stowage
Bow and stern painter line hold-downs
Two spare paddle parks (one each on bow and stern sections for a C1 spray deck)
Map case D-rings
Three-piece construction
If you're looking for a tandem canoe spray deck, see our Expedition Spray Decks for tandem canoes.

Kruger Sea Wind Spray Cover
$400.00
The legend of Verlen Kruger is equaled only by the legend of his unmatched expedition canoes.
The Sea Wind is Verlen's exceptional decked solo canoe and we are honored to offer a faithful reproduction of the Sea Wind spray deck, along with a version with an updated, modernized body tunnel. Both versions of our Sea Wind spray deck are up to the adventures and expeditions that a Kruger canoe is meant for.
We offer the Sea Wind spray deck in blue, charcoal grey, forest green, and red.
If you select the option to include stainless steel snap buttons with your cover, we will attach the buttons to the cover (4 per side) and send a set of 8 stainless snap studs, rivets, and washers that you will need to install on your cockpit coaming.
Note that our spray covers do not come with the arched battens that connect to the Sea Wind cockpit coaming. If you no longer have the battens, we can sew four HDPE battens and tensioning straps into the underside of the deck.
Spray Tunnel Choices
The original spray tunnel design has two zippers on the front sides of the tunnel, a bungee draw cord around the top, and uses the same marine-grade Aqualon Edge fabric that's used on the deck. While it is a time tested design, it can be difficult to get out of in a capsize and the heavy weight fabric can be uncomfortable against the body.
We have updated the spray tunnel by combining the original Sea Wind spray deck body with the anatomic tunnels that we use on our Expedition canoe spray decks. The tunnels are fitted so that they contour over your knees and lap, include short battens to keep the lap section from inverting and collecting water, and roll away for warm days when you want the spray deck body, but don't want a tunnel around your torso. The modern tunnel also has a front seam secured with 2" Velcro that can be released quickly with a reinforced rip-tab, facilitating a quick exit in the event of a capsize.
We find the modern tunnel to be safer, more comfortable, and equally durable and sea worthy compared to the original.

Landick Canoe Seats
$100.00
Designed and built by a man with more seat time in a canoe than almost any other paddler, Steve Landick, these seats offer a large surface area and a carefully contoured profile for comfort, even after many hours (or even days) in the boat.
The Big Ass Landick seat is 16-1/4 inches wide by 14 inches long and provides the greatest surface area to support your hips, pelvis, and upper legs, while evenly distributing seating pressure. Despite its name, this seat fits a wide range of backsides and comes highly recommended from our own personal experience if your boat can accommodate its width.
If you have a narrower boat, like a J-203, V1 Pro, Corbin, JD Pro, or another canoe with a narrow seating width, the Small Ass Landick seat offers most of the comfort of the Big Ass version, only in a narrower design. It is 15 inches wide by 14 inches long and will fit in most canoes, though might require some slight grinding or sanding at the front edges to slide all the way forward in the bow seat of a narrow boat.
Both seats are made from carbon and epoxy, including carbon tow reinforcement to maximize stiffness and minimize weight. They are sold unmounted; the front-to-back tilt is an important part of maximizing the comfort of these seats, so you’ll want to experiment with them to find the best angle for your paddling position before glassing them to the seat frame. The higher your seat height, the less tilt you’ll want, while the lower your seat height the higher you’ll want to raise the front edge.
If you need assistance with seat installation, any canoe or kayak repair tech and most paddling shops should be able to help you. We can recommend the excellent services of these repair and outfitting specialists:

Padded Paddle Case
$60.00
Our padded, durable paddle cases are like Fort Knox for your canoe and kayak paddles.
Made from a durable, breathable WeatherMax LT fabric exterior and padded with quilted polyester lining, these cases protect your paddles from more than the casual bumps and drops. Each case will hold two canoe paddles or one two-piece kayak paddle in compartments separated by a quilted and padded divider. If you don't mind your paddles sharing compartments, they'll hold four canoe paddles or two two-piece kayak paddles. The cases have a convenient, balanced carrying handle, a secure Velcro closure, and hold paddles narrower than 12”. The case size indicates the longest paddle they will hold; if you have a 56" paddle, the 56" paddle case will comfortably protect it with a bit more than an inch to spare.Personally, we keep our primary and spare paddles for solo paddling in one of these cases and a second case with our tandem paddles in it.
Details:
Shell: WeatherMax LT
Padding and lining: Quilted polyester
Trim: Polyester binding
Other: Velcro closure and webbing handle
Note: If you want to keep your paddles safe from scratches and bumps in your car, but think that our padded paddle cases are more than you need, click here to learn about our lighter, premium polyester paddle socks.

Speed Deck Spray Covers
$100.00
Our Pro-boat Speed Decks are made for fast and light paddling, whether that's racing, winter training, or paddling in any situation where you want to deflect water or keep the sun and paddle drips off your legs. Specifically designed for narrow-gunwale USCA 3x27 "Pro-boat" racing canoes, they're designed with racers in mind:
HyperD 300 diamond-grid ripstop polyester fabric is durable, waterproof, and lightweight.
Velcro attachment is low-profile, doesn't require drilling holes or making modifications to your boat, and avoids snaps that could damage other boats when rubbing rails in tight packs.
Arched battens in the bow and stern lap decks shed water and prevent pooling.
Knee pockets are cut to allow free leg movement, but sculpted to avoid water pooling.
A 4-piece lap transition offers a comfortable, tapered fit to shed water and minimize excess fabric.
The stretch waistband adjusts to provide about 4-inches of comfortable, forward movement without drawcords or zippers.
Webbing grab-loops at each corner make removing the deck to exit the boat or access gear a quick, one-handed task.
Each Speed Deck is custom-made to ensure a perfect fit for your boat and normal seat position. To custom fit your deck, simply measure these distances:
The distance from the front edge of the opening that the Speed Deck should cover to the front edge of the seat in its normal paddling position. Do not add any distance for the width of the Velcro at the front edge. If you want a bow cover to go all the way to the front of the boat, measure from the tip of the bow to the front edge of the bow seat.
The width between the outer edges of the gunwales at the front edge of the Speed Deck.
The width between the outer edges of the gunwales at the front edge of your seat in its normal paddling position.
To keep our deck prices as low as possible, we do NOT usually ship them with the adhesive-backed loop Velcro that is placed on the boat. If you need the adhesive loop Velcro for your boat, be sure to select it when you place your order.

Bow-first or Stern-first?
Bow-first covers are our most popular option, but if you carry your boat backward (stern-first) on your car, we recommend getting a stern-first cover. A stern-first cover is sewn in reverse, enclosing stern of the boat rather than the bow so that it faces into the wind properly while driving.
Carrying Thwart Location
We have the factory spec location for the front carrying handle / thwart on all of our cover patterns. Unfortunately, because of the way the gunwales taper at the bow, a carrying thwart that's 1/2" wider or narrower than the factory specification can move many inches forward or backward, especially in long, narrow racing canoes and solo boats. Thwarts may also be in non-spec locations due to after market outfitting, restorations, custom orders, or specifications that changed at the factory over time.To ensure that the slit for your carrying thwart or handle is in exactly the right place on your cover, we encourage you to measure from the tip of the bow to the center of the carrying handle and include that information in your order.
We can also use the factory specified location that we have on file, though we can't guarantee that it will be perfect for your boat.
Why Polyester?
Our most popular and budget-minded fabric is a durable, stretch polyester double-knit. It's long-wearing and great for general protection from UV damage, road dirt, bugs, strap-rub, etc. This is the fabric that you probably have in mind when you think of a Bag Lady canoe cover.
Note that polyester is not waterproof or water-resistant. This isn't a problem for most Royalex, fiberglass, carbon, or Kevlar boats since the fabric breathes very well and dries quickly: water won't damage most canoes.
However, you may want to consider WeatherMAX 3D fabric if you have a wood-canvas canoe, oiled wood gunwales or trim, or store your boat outdoors in places with lots of sun or harsh winters.
Polyester also fades quickly in the sun, but we still think it's a great material for a cover. We use a premium polyester fabric that's thick and will give you many, many years of service even though the outside of the fabric will fade.
Why WeatherMax 3D?
WeatherMax 3D is a premium outdoor fabric that offers the same, form-fitting stretch and exceptional fit of polyester, with a number of additional benefits:
Water-resistant and breathable
Blocks 99% of UV light for long-term UV resistance
Exceptionally color-fade resistant
HydroMax finish for dirt and mildew resistance
100% pigment solution-dyed SaturaMax fibers
It's the ultimate canoe cover fabric and will protect even the most sensitive wood and canvas and oiled wood trim canoes, while still offering the exceptional fit that comes with stretch material.
While our premium polyester has been the mainstay of the Bag Lady canoe covers for the past 40+ years, we think that WeatherMax 3D will change that very quickly.
The additional cost of a WeatherMax 3D cover is well worth the investment if you want the best possible protection or your canoe is stored outdoors.
Before ordering a WeatherMax 3D cover, please read this statement about minor cosmetic flaws in WeatherMax 3D fabric. The link will open in a new window, so you will not lose any information you've already selected on this product page.
Multi-color Polyester Covers
Premium polyester fabric is available in a limited range of colors which can be combined in a multi-color cover. We offer two "standard" multi-color patterns. If you'd like a different pattern, we may be able to make unique patterns during the winter if our workload allows.
The "Bow Stripe" pattern has three panels, each of which can be a different color.
The "End Stripes" pattern also has three panels, each of which can be a different color.
Pricing
The base price for a canoe cover is $249 in premium polyester or $349 in WeatherMax 3D. Covers may cost more for canoes longer than 18'6", with hull measurements larger than 54", with recurved sterns requiring a special closure, or with other special design requests, including stern-first construction and multi-color covers.
Delivery Time
Bag Lady canoe covers are made-to-order. In the winter, we're often able to begin working on your cover within a day or two and ship it within a week. During the busy spring and summer paddling seasons, we're often running a month or so out on orders.

Our Bag Lady kayak covers are made from the same premium, double-knit polyester or marine-grade WeatherMax 3D fabric as our famous canoe covers.
These covers protect the hull of your kayak from UV damage, fading, bugs, scratches, stone chips, road grime, and more when you're transporting or storing your kayak.
The cover fully encloses the kayak and seals with a durable, plastic #10 YKK marine zipper. Understern and overstern rudders are accommodated with a variety of closure variations depending on your boat's specific rudder system and positioning.
Each cover is custom-sewn for your kayak to ensure a perfect fit that minimizes flapping when traveling and provides easy access to carry toggles, handles, and tie-down points.

This isn't a problem for most fiberglass, carbon, Kevlar, cedar strip, or polyethylene kayaks, since the fabric breathes very well and dries very quickly: water won't damage most kayaks. The Ultimate Cover - Kayak, Surf Ski, and Outrigger Canoes
$349.00
The Ultimate Cover is the best storage and transport protection available for your kayak, surf ski, or outrigger canoe.
The Ultimate Cover is more robust and durable than our stretch-fit Original Bag Lady covers and has a full-length marine zipper closure that makes installation and removal easy and fast, even when you’re solo. It takes less than 60 seconds for one person to put an Ultimate Cover on a boat.
Like all of our covers, the Ultimate Cover is custom sewn for your specific sea kayak, surf ski, or outrigger canoe to ensure a great fit. These covers fully enclose your boat and are designed for long-term indoor and outdoor storage, as well as transportation at highway speeds.
Features that set the Ultimate Cover apart from the competition for durability, rugged construction, and convenience include:
Sunbrella Marine fabric, the best marine-grade, water- and UV-resistant fabric available
A full-length, YKK #10 molded marine zipper
Fully bound edges
Double- and triple-reinforced seams
Reinforced bow tie-down points with welded stainless steel D-rings
Optional reinforced, mesh-lined drains
Optional reinforced carry handles
Optional quilted polyester padding
When ordering, be sure to tell us if your boat has any non-standard features or options, like an add-on over-stern rudder, wave deflectors, deck compasses, RAM or other high-profile mounts, etc. If you’re not sure, feel free to email or call us!
Should I get a padded cover?
We generally don't recommend getting a padded cover. If you have a very fragile boat or keep your boat in a club or public storage area, padding can offer a bit of extra protection from the unavoidable bumps and scuffs. However, padding is also another place for grit and sand to accumulate and can take longer to dry than an unpadded cover.
We can tell you that we only have padding in one of our own Ultimate Covers - our most fragile, lightweight ICF K1 that is stored indoors.
What is the difference between an Ultimate Cover and an Original Bag Lady cover?
Our Ultimate Covers are custom-fit from non-stretch, marine-grade Sunbrella fabric and have a full-length zipper so the boat can go directly in and out of the cover. When they’re on the boat, there is about an inch of slack fabric around the circumference of the boat.
Our Original Bag Lady covers are made from a stretch-fit premium polyester or marine-grade WeatherMax 3D. The front half of the cover slips over the bow like a sock and the back half zips up to enclose the boat. There is little to no slack fabric around the circumference of the boat.
Both styles of cover fully enclose your kayak/surf ski/outrigger canoe and are made from breathable fabric. The Ultimate Cover is more durable, better for long-term outdoor storage, and easier to put on; the Original Bag Lady covers are more economical (in premium polyester), lighter, and offer a driving-glove-like fit.
Should I get drains?
We offer optional reinforced mesh drains sewn into the bottom of the Ultimate Cover. Depending on the length of the boat and whether it has an under-stern rudder, we install two or three drains on a cover.
The Sunbrella fabric is very water resistant, but not waterproof. Additionally, the #10 molded marine zipper is not waterproof. As a result, some water will get into the cover in heavy precipitation.
If you store your boat upside down so the zipper is on the bottom, you don't need the drains - any water that manages to get through the fabric will exit through the zipper. This is how we recommend storing and transporting your boats, both to avoid the need for drains in the cover and to avoid water accumulating in the cockpit or bucket.
If you store or transport your boat right-side up and where precipitation falls on it, we recommend adding the drains so that any water that enters the cover through the zipper or fabric can easily exit. Residual moisture will evaporate through the breathable Sunbrella material without causing any harm to the boat or the cover.
Should I order the optional carry handles?
Some customers carry their boats by wrapping their arms around the bow and stern and don't want webbing handles added to the cover. Other customers prefer to carry the boat by a handle and appreciate having a webbing carry handle added to the cover.
If your boat already has a stern carry handle built in, you can always access it by unzipping the stern of the cover when you're carrying the boat. We don't think a stern carry handle is needed on those boats.
Personally, we add the bow carry handle to our heavier sea kayaks, but leave them off of our lighter surf skis and racing kayaks.
Which type of cover would we choose for our own kayaks, surf skis, and outrigger canoes?
We’ve replaced all of our Original Bag Lady covers for our kayaks, surf skis, and outrigger canoes with Ultimate Covers. We created the Ultimate Cover because Jeremy was tired of wrestling the front 11 feet of his 21-foot surf skis into its Original Bag Lady kayak cover after long training paddles and wanted a full-zip, non-stretch option that was faster and easier to put on.
My kayak, surf ski, or outrigger canoe isn't listed in the Manufacturer or Model drop down.
Can I get an Ultimate Cover for my open canoe?
We don’t offer full-zip Ultimate Covers for canoes due to the large circumference of most canoe designs. However, we do offer the Canoe Coat, a durable long-term outdoor storage cover made from the same custom-fit, marine-grade Sunbrella fabric and featuring quick on-and-off buckle straps. It’s the highest level of storage protection and the most durable, UV-resistant cover you can get for your canoe, but is not suitable for transportation on a vehicle.
