Expedition Spray Decks - Solo Canoes
Expedition Spray Decks - Solo Canoes $550.00
If you don't see your solo canoe make and model listed in the ordering options, don't worry! Just contact us at hello@redleafdesigns.com so that we can send you a measurement packet. Once we have your boat's measurements, we'll add it to the list.  Please take a moment to read this short blog post about how to choose between adhesive SNAD snaps and drilled-and-riveted snaps before you place an order.  --------- Our Expedition Canoe Spray Decks are made to protect you, your canoe, and your gear from sun, waves, and wind on even the most extended expedition. Each spray deck is made to order, ensuring a perfect, custom fit and offering all the options and features you need. The decks are made from marine-grade, 8.75 oz Aqualon Edge fabric, making them waterproof, durable, UV-resistant, and long lasting. If you're paddling open water or on epic expeditions, they won't let you down, but are also light enough to portage without a second thought. A fully outfitted tandem expedition deck with attachment hardware weighs about 5 pounds.  All expedition spray decks feature three-panel, fitted tunnels that avoid excess, baggy fabric. The anatomically contoured tunnels close with 2" Velcro and have two removable side battens to keep the fabric off of your lap and prevent water from pooling. The tunnels on expedition spray covers are made from waterproof 400D ripstop polyester, ensuring both comfort and durability.   Two attachment options give you flexibility in mounting the cover to your canoe: A pure snap system is low profile, durable, and simple. The snaps are mounted directly to the edge of the cover and the studs are attached to your boat about 1" below the gunwales. The gunwales provides protection to prevent obstacles, your paddle, or your hands from scraping the snaps while paddling. The cover's tension and position are fixed and permanent once you've mounted the snap studs on your boat. You can choose between riveting snap studs to your boat or using YKK SNAD adhesive studs.  Our hybrid snap-and-lace system, which uses snaps to attach a lacing system to the canoe. In what we think is a best-of-both-worlds approach, this system gives you the quick and easy on-off of a snap system along with the flexibility in tensioning and loading of a lacing system. Because the snaps are about 5 to 6 inches below your gunwales, they are more exposed and less protected than a pure snap system mounted just under the gunwales. You can choose between riveting stainless snap studs to your boat hull or using YKK SNAD snap studs that attach with 3M VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive.  All options are "standard": 1000D Cordura-reinforced gunwales Anatomic, fitted spray tunnels with 2-inch Velcro closures, knee battens, and roll-away stowage Bow and stern painter line hold-downs Two spare paddle parks (one each on bow and stern sections for a C1 spray deck) Map case D-rings Three-piece construction If you're looking for a tandem canoe spray deck, see our Expedition Spray Decks for tandem canoes.
Kruger Sea Wind Spray Cover
Kruger Sea Wind Spray Cover $400.00
The legend of Verlen Kruger is equaled only by the legend of his unmatched expedition canoes.  The Sea Wind is Verlen's exceptional decked solo canoe and we are honored to offer a faithful reproduction of the Sea Wind spray deck, along with a version with an updated, modernized body tunnel. Both versions of our Sea Wind spray deck are up to the adventures and expeditions that a Kruger canoe is meant for.  We offer the Sea Wind spray deck in blue, charcoal grey, forest green, and red.  If you select the option to include stainless steel snap buttons with your cover, we will attach the buttons to the cover (4 per side) and send a set of 8 stainless snap studs, rivets, and washers that you will need to install on your cockpit coaming.  Note that our spray covers do not come with the arched battens that connect to the Sea Wind cockpit coaming. If you no longer have the battens, we can sew four HDPE battens and tensioning straps into the underside of the deck.  Spray Tunnel Choices The original spray tunnel design has two zippers on the front sides of the tunnel, a bungee draw cord around the top, and uses the same marine-grade Aqualon Edge fabric that's used on the deck. While it is a time tested design, it can be difficult to get out of in a capsize and the heavy weight fabric can be uncomfortable against the body.  We have updated the spray tunnel by combining the original Sea Wind spray deck body with the anatomic tunnels that we use on our Expedition canoe spray decks. The tunnels are fitted so that they contour over your knees and lap, include short battens to keep the lap section from inverting and collecting water, and roll away for warm days when you want the spray deck body, but don't want a tunnel around your torso. The modern tunnel also has a front seam secured with 2" Velcro that can be released quickly with a reinforced rip-tab, facilitating a quick exit in the event of a capsize.  We find the modern tunnel to be safer, more comfortable, and equally durable and sea worthy compared to the original.
Speed Deck Spray Covers
Speed Deck Spray Covers $100.00
Our Pro-boat Speed Decks are made for fast and light paddling, whether that's racing, winter training, or paddling in any situation where you want to deflect water or keep the sun and paddle drips off your legs. Specifically designed for narrow-gunwale USCA 3x27 "Pro-boat" racing canoes, they're designed with racers in mind: HyperD 300 diamond-grid ripstop polyester fabric is durable, waterproof, and lightweight. Velcro attachment is low-profile, doesn't require drilling holes or making modifications to your boat, and avoids snaps that could damage other boats when rubbing rails in tight packs. Arched battens in the bow and stern lap decks shed water and prevent pooling. Knee pockets are cut to allow free leg movement, but sculpted to avoid water pooling. A 4-piece lap transition offers a comfortable, tapered fit to shed water and minimize excess fabric. The stretch waistband adjusts to provide about 4-inches of comfortable, forward movement without drawcords or zippers. Webbing grab-loops at each corner make removing the deck to exit the boat or access gear a quick, one-handed task. Each Speed Deck is custom-made to ensure a perfect fit for your boat and normal seat position. To custom fit your deck, simply measure these distances: The distance from the front edge of the opening that the Speed Deck should cover to the front edge of the seat in its normal paddling position. Do not add any distance for the width of the Velcro at the front edge. If you want a bow cover to go all the way to the front of the boat, measure from the tip of the bow to the front edge of the bow seat.  The width between the outer edges of the gunwales at the front edge of the Speed Deck. The width between the outer edges of the gunwales at the front edge of your seat in its normal paddling position.  To keep our deck prices as low as possible, we do NOT usually ship them with the adhesive-backed loop Velcro that is placed on the boat. If you need the adhesive loop Velcro for your boat, be sure to select it when you place your order.
